slammmmm

I've been spinning these 3 bands a lot recently.  I think I dig Sexcrement the most.  Musically they have it going on, they have some really solid groove parts and some solid riffs on top of that.

Get a load of these dogs!!!!!!!

It's nice to listen to tristeza after not listening to them for a long time.  Their music really takes me to another world.  That world it takes me to is very peaceful and relaxing.  It's a stress free environment.

Future Junebug!!!

The only album that matters.

Also, isn't it so odd to think about what a difference 3 years can make?
Still way stoked on death metal and music in general.  I've got a lot on my plate and am way excited to listen to it all.

I've got:
Handsome - s/t (a walter schreifels band)
Coffins
Memorial
Slayer (of course)
And tons more...

I'm going to take a moment to talk about Dag Nasty.  Band ruled.  Wish I had know about them longer, Can I Say is near flawless.  I feel like theres a ton of music I've faked on or just never bothered to listen to and Dag Nasty is one of those bands I totally slept on.  Well, I'm happy I know about them now.

Dillinger Four, great summer music.  Love this band.

Shout outs to Anton for getting me into a lot of these new bands im stoked on.

God? No God.

I still have a lot on my mind.  Religious fundamentalists are totally beyond my comprehension.  But I can't get enough of them.  I love reading about religion, it's so fascinating.  Sometimes I question my own existence because it's really hard for me to understand certain beliefs.  I really wish I could stay up all night and finish this book.

My attitude towards religion is very cynical.  Religion infuriates me.  From my point of view, I cannot even begin to comprehend what it means to have "faith".  Is there something wrong with me?  Or am I perfectly sane?  Well, I know I'm perfectly sane.  I've seen both sides and I know damn well where I stand.  I think the way life unravels has little to do with any outside force.  Although I am very superstitious when it comes to the Laws of Karma, but anyways.  I've been reading a book about Mormon Fundamentalism and it only makes me more upset at how naive people can be.  So Joseph Smith (the founder of the mormon religion) is this dude who used to dabble in the occult.  Ding ding ding, your "this dude is nuts" meter should be going off right now.  After he got out of the occult, he began to hunt treasures using "peep stones".  Sound alarm #2.  Long story short, Joseph used his black magic powers to communicate with an angel that led him to golden tablets that would later be translated into what we know as The Book Of Mormons.  From that point on the church of latter day saints was founded.

Now what eludes me is the fact that there are people that actually adhere to these teachings.  There is no physical evidence of the golden tablets, so who knows if Joseph is lying or not.  Apparently there were 16 witnesses that claimed they saw the golden tablets, but thats all hearsay.

What I want to know is what drives someone to believe something so ridiculous?  Polygamy, incest, complete submission and obedience (women), and so on.  I understand that if one is raised a certain way they know no other way.  But what gives anyone the right to exercise such extreme power over another in the name of god.

I have a lot more to say but I cannot get my thoughts straight.  I wish I could just talk and have the computer write the post for me.

It's really late

I'm laying in bed listening to Nile, a rather noisy band to be listening to at such an hour.  But I can't help myself.  Nile shreds it pretty hard.  I'll probably put on some Misery Index after this and dream about wicked tattoo ideas.  It'd be really cool to have a piece thats really well done with beautiful colors that is centered around a really gnarly lyric.  Something along the lines of, "sometimes I just want to tear out my eyes and be blind to this world that I see" would do just fine.  But that would definitely raise too many eyebrows and I'd have to fucking explain it every time someone questioned it.  Whatever.  Anyways, Sarah got a tattoo and it's pretty fucking badass.   She sat through 3 and a half hours of line work which was pretty bold.  Even the artist commented on how brave she was for sitting down for that long.  I wish I had a picture that I could post but I don't (not yet at least).  Now that I think about it, even little J-Bird (also known as Junebug) has a god damn tattoo.  That little beast is more of a man than I'll ever be!

Onwards to my recent musical interests:
Ok, so through the B9 board I discovered how AWESOME Machine Head is, man those dudes can fucking hang.  "Davidian" might be the heaviest song from the mid 90's.  I can't get enough of it.  Don't get me wrong, the rest of "Burn My Eyes" is awesome, but "Davidian" is the best song on the album by far.
Nile, I don't really have much to say other than that they fucking rule.  I'm pissed I'm just getting into them.
Misery Index...just another ridiculously good Baltimore band.  I'm so mad at myself for not liking them when I was younger.  I actually believe I used to think they were god awful.  I wish I could go back in time and kick myself in the dick for thinking that.
Fleet Foxes...they are really great indie rock.  Lot's of acoustic stuff accompanied by really great vocals.  They're one of the only bands I've gotten into recently that I can listen to for hours on end.  I've got 3 albums from them and I love every single song from each album.  I still can't decide which album or EP I dig the most.  Anyways, I highly recommend any release from them, you will not be disappointed.
Helios...if you're into beautiful soundscapes then this is your band.  Great ambient/post rockish stuff.  I don't know their background at all I just know that their music is really beautiful.  When I listen to them my imagine soars.  It's awesome.  I love putting on their album "Eingya" and daydreaming.  They invoke the wildest thoughts possible.  I've got this one daydream inspired by Helios that involves myself, Sarah, and Juneth and we're all just really happy having a great time while floating down an endless river with the sun beaming down on us from above.  If I were to share this day dream with Junebug she would be elated to know that the sun is involved.  In fact, I'm pretty sure if Junebug could spend all of her days lounging on warm concrete in the sun, she'd be way stoked.

I'm gonna put Helios on repeat and fall asleep.

So this news article made me think of that part in 30 days of night where the head vampire asked that girl where her God was.  If you haven't seen the movie it was soon made known that her God was not on her side.  The same goes for the girls parents who killed their daughter because they were too stupid to seek medical treatment.  Since when does faith override empirical evidence?  As far as I'm concerned it never has and never will.  There's no such thing as a miracle.  I'm not saying that something cannot be miraculous, I'm saying that there is no such thing as an act happening as a result of God.  Why is it so hard to understand that things just happen?  I read an article recently about people who went blind staring into the sun thinking they saw the Virgin Mary.  I cannot even begin to wrap my mind around that.  I wouldn't be surprised if my brain exploded due to me thinking about these things too hard.

New music I've gotten into recently

I'm a sucker for new music so I spend a lot of my free time searching shareminer.com/myspace.com/and various blogs for new metal, death metal, hardcore, indie, indie rock, shoegaze, alternative, 90's rock, etc.....you get the picture.  I love re-discovering old bands too.  Recently I put on some Alice In Chains and was thoroughly stoked.  They're surprisingly heavy and I love that about them.  Dirt is an awesome album.  The 90's pumped out so many fucking awesome albums.

Ok so onto new albums I've downloaded:
108 - songs of separation
Fleet Foxes - (3 albums)
Machinehead - burn my eyes
Stone Temple Pilots - Core

Yeah, I know, totally random assortment.  108 is awesome, I honestly never gave them a chance and I was really surprised to find out they werent straight forward fast hardcore.  If they had been like that, I'm sure I wouldnt like them as much.  Fleet Foxes is just really good indie rock.  Lots of acoustic stuff with great vocals on top.  Machinehead is ultra heavy, Davidian is my new jam.  Stone Temple Pilots needs no introduction....
